Positive signs in the employment landscape

They have been a long time coming, but this week a number of positive statistics were revealed about the UK’s employment landscape, comments Cascade’s Ross Adams.

“The Office of National Statistics (ONS) highlighted yesterday that the tally of people out of work fell by 57,000 between March and May 2013, during which time youth unemployment figures also improved. It was found that the proportion of individuals in full-time roles increased too, as did the average weekly wage, and the good news is that many forecast a continuation of this encouraging trend.

Whilst the level of improvement is small, many business owners, HR professionals, employed and unemployed individuals will take solace in these positive signs. Too often the media is awash with doom and gloom, which naturally breeds fear and negativity amongst organisations. Whilst it is perhaps right to express caution as the nation strives for economic recovery, and there is undoubtedly still some way to go, at the same time it is important to digest these new statistics with a sense of confidence.

As organisations retain their employees and look to appoint new members of staff, it is likely this will instil a feeling of job security within the workforce. A natural consequence of this more positive outlook will be a greater level of job satisfaction, employee morale and hopefully also commitment to the role. It would be naïve to think that this will translate to all businesses blooming by the end of the summer, but we have our fingers crossed that the next set of ONS findings will reveal ongoing progress.

Perhaps as a result of these positive industry signs, Cascade has continued to talk to a number of prospective new clients in recent months. As Human Resources teams look to the future, they need to know that they have the tools in place to support them to be efficient, flexible and savvy in their approach. Cascade’s award-winning HR software is the perfect value-adding partner for change and it is a pleasure to aid HR professionals as they look to make a difference within their organisations.”
