Record year prompts Leeds’ largest out-of-town office expansion

Leeds-based Cascade HR – one of the UK’s leading HR and payroll software providers – has moved to new office premises more than three times the size of its previous site, following a record year in business.

News of the relocation from North West Leeds (Pudsey) to One City West Business Park hit the headlines in late 2015, when it was cited as the largest out-of-town office deal in 12 months. But the announcement didn’t just signify a notable achievement for the commercial property market.

Cascade’s decision to relocate to the new site – close to junction 1 of the M621 motorway – followed the technology’s firm’s most impressive 12 months to date. 126 new clients came on board during 2015, taking the customer base to more than 750 private sector and not-for-profit organisations. Turnover and profit figures also rocketed, meaning Cascade surpassed its 20% annual growth target – a level that has been sustained for the last six years.

But to support this expansion strategy, Cascade has had to recruit, and the old offices could no longer house what has grown to become a 130-strong workforce. The 16,122sqft new space, over two floors, will therefore pave the way for even more employees to join the business.

Commenting on the relocation, Cascade’s CEO Oliver Shaw said: “We’ve always believed that our office environment needs to reflect the level of service we deliver to our customers. To date, this ethos has proven crucial in our journey – it has helped us nurture a positive, people-centric culture among employees and has enabled us to close one in two deals every time a prospective client comes to visit.

“Yet we have outgrown our space, and working across two locations was not ideal. The office move therefore allows us to provide state of the art ‘accommodation’ for our company, with more meeting rooms, interactive technology, 24 hour access, security, great transport links and scope to evolve further. It’s a crucial element in us maintaining a consistently high service however large the company becomes.”

With £936,000 set to be invested in further software development this year and another 20 employees due to be recruited in 2016, it looks like the next 12 months could be equally as exciting for Cascade.

“We’re among the top five HR technology providers in the UK,” continues Oliver. “And that’s alongside huge global brands such as Sage and Oracle. But with 5% of the market share this takes us into a completely different league when compared to our other UK competitors. The office move very much signifies Cascade’s ‘coming of age’.”

A highly configurable tool capable of supporting organisations with 25 up to several thousand employees, the Cascade software will maintain one key focus this year.

Oliver concludes: “Of course we continually develop our technology in line with legislative changes, which is why our new holiday pay functionality has been so well received for example. But the over-arching goal of the system is to provide an intuitive, intelligent and easy-to-use resource that empowers HR professionals to carry out their roles more effectively. By better navigating big data and proactively uncovering trends, for instance, the software isn’t just a time saver – it also allows HR teams to improve their organisations’ bottom line through more effective human capital management. To have such a demonstrable impact on the performance of other companies is very rewarding indeed.”
